Baseball earns sweep over Bard in RussMatt Invitational 6-2, 11-5
Auburndale, FL- The MCLA baseball program earned a pair of victories over Bard College taking the opener 6-2 before winning the nightcap 11-5. The Trailblazers have won four straight and are now 4-2 on the season. Bard wraps up their Florida trip at 0-5.
In the opener, MCLA and Bard each scored a pair of runs in the first inning and the game stayed that way until the sixth. The Trailblazers would plate two runs when Chase Preite led off with a double and scored on a single off the bat of Mike Mancivalano. Ryan Shook then lofted a sacrifice fly to bring in the second run.
MCLA tacked on two more in the seventh for breathing room as Tyler Benoit's double brought one run and Mancivalano singled in another.
Benoit earned the win on the mound going the first five innings and yielding five hits and striking out 8 Raptor hitters. Eamonn Andre came on to earn a two inning save.
Preite, Rory Slattery, Benoit, and Mancivalano all had two hits for MCLA.
In game two, the Trailblazers seized control jumping out to an 11-0 lead after four innings. MCLA sent 12 batters to the dish in the second inning and pounded out nine hits in the inning. Slattery had a two run single to highlight the frame.
Mancivalano earned the win tossing the first five innings and giving up just 6 hits and two runs.
Ryan Shook went a perfect 4-4 in game two while Slattery and Myles Candelet each had two hits.
MCLA will look to keep it going tomorrow when they battle Utica College.
