MCLA softball sweeps visiting Fitchburg State
Pittsfield, MA- The Trailblazers earned key MASCAC wins this afternoon sweeping visiting Fitchburg State 1-0 and 2-0. The Trailblazers now improve to 8-14, 4-4 and Fitchburg falls to 11-11 and 5-3.
MCLA received a strong pitching performance in both Rachel Quackenbush and Amanda Meczywor. Both pitchers combined to only give up five Fitchburg hits. Quackenbush recorded 12 strikeouts in eight innings pitched, 11 coming in game one, earning the save in game two and Meczywor struck out two in six shutout innings in game two.
Game one MCLA scored in the third inning. Michaela DiNicola reached first on an infield hit advanced to second on a passed ball and came around to score when Meczywor singled to left field. That was all the Trailblazers needed to earn the victory.
The Trailblazers scored in the bottom of the first inning to start game two and then again in the third to earn the sweep.
In the bottom of the first, DiNicola recorded her fourth hit of the day, stole second, moved to third on an infield ground out and scored on a past ball. In the third inning, Alexandra Romano was awarded first on an infield error, moved to third on DiNicola's bunt single and scored on Quackenbush's infield out.
Meczywor earned her first win in the circle while Quackenbush evened her record at 7-7.
DiNicola was 5-6 on the afternoon with three stolen bases and two runs scored.
The Trailblazers will be back in MASCAC play on Monday when they travel to Mass Maritime.
