Berghela, Watson named All MASCAC second team in Softball
2017 All MASCAC Softball Release
North Adams, MA- The MCLA Softball program had a pair of players selected to the All MASCAC teams as announced by the league offices this afternoon. Sophomore Kaitlyn Berghela and first year player Morgan Watson earned the all conference nods.
Worcester State's Rachel Couto and Framingham State's Kelsi Gunarathne have been named the 2017 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Year and head up the all-conference squad which is voted on by the coaches from around the conference.
Mycala Moody of Framingham State is the 2017 MASCAC Rookie of the Year after averaging .376 at the plate with a .442 on-base percentage while also tallying two doubles, two triples, 12 RBI and 21 runs scored. Larry Miller of Framingham State was named the 2017 Champion's Choice Coach of the Year honors after leading the Rams to a 12-2 record and the top seed in the conference tournament.
Berghela is a repeat selection to the All Conference team. The outfielder batted .326 in 2017 with 19 runs scored. She drove in 10 runs for the Trailblazers while stealing 7 bases. She appeared in 30 games for MCLA and was the primary centerfielder.
Watson was the top starter for MCLA this season off the mound. She started a team best 15 games in the circle and appeared in 17 games off the mound. She earned her first career win in a complete game performance against Lyndon State. In 78.2 innings pitched, she struck out 59 batters.
