Women's Soccer Edged Out by SUNY Poly

UTICA, N.Y.—The MCLA opened the road portion of their schedule this afternoon when they traveled to the SUNY Polytechnical Institute for a non-conference matchup with the Wildcats. Mallory Amirian stopped five shots, but the hosts made the most of a 14-3 advantage in shots to power their way to a 2-0 win.

THE BASICS:

  • Date: Saturday, September 7, 2024
  • Score: MCLA 0, SUNY Poly 2
  • Records: MCLA Trailblazers 0-3-0 (MASCAC 0-0-0) | SUNY Polytechnical Institute Wildcats 3-1-0 (Empire 8 0-0-0)
  • Series History: MCLA and SUNY Poly are tied in the all-time series 1-1-0. MCLA won the only previous matchup between the teams 4-0 on September 24, 2013.

HOW IT WENT DOWN

  • SUNY Poly scored the game's first goal in the 8th minute of the first half when Madison Altamura picked up a pass just past midfield and streaked up the left sideline with the ball. Altamura made a move about 20 yards from the net to shed an MCLA defender and got off a shot from about 8 yards out that found the upper right corner of the goal. The goal was the only score of the first half.
  • The Wildcats repeated the pattern of scoring early in the half, when Kate Donnelly just barely remained onside to accept a pass from Brooke Bush and chipped a shot that bounced high over the outstretched hands of Trailblazers goal keeper Mallory Amirian (Haverhill, MA) and into the net.
  • SUNY Poly finished the game with a 14 to three edge in shots on goal, including a seven to one lead in shots on goal. The Wildcats also enjoyed a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.
  • Amarian finished the game with five saves but still saw their record fall to 0-3-0. SUNY Poly's Katie Bowers stopped the only shot she faced on the net but saw her record improve to 2-1-0.
