Volleyball Kick Off Season by Dropping Two at the Pacific Coast Classic
CLAREMONT, Calif.—Building off their 2023 run to the MASCAC Finals, the MCLA Volleyball team looked to step up in class by traveling to California for the Pacific Coast Classic, hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges. On the first day of play, the Trailblazers came out on the short side of matches with Chapman University and 2023 D-III Final Four participant Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Chapman never trailed in the Trailblazers' first game of the day, winning in straight sets (25-13, 25-12, and 25-15).
- Chloie Garber (Eagle River, AK) and Elizabeth Brown (Lee, MA) paced MCLA with seven kills a piece in the matchup with Chapman, and that same duo, along with Ezmeralda Albright (Loves Park, IL), all recorded a game-high nine digs each.
- Shannon O'Brien (Unionville, CT) had a game-high 12 assists for the Trailblazers.
- The Panthers Olivia Harrison had a game-high 13 kills on 20 attacks for a .600 hitting average. As a team, Chapman had 38 kills on 95 total attacks.
- Chapman's Kaylee Koerth had a team-high four service aces.
- In MCLA's second game of the day, Claremont-M-S's Shae Delany had a game-high 13.5 points on the strength of six kills and seven service aces. Both stats tied with a teammate (Dani Beder on kills and Georgia McGovern on aces) for a game-high. The Athenas enjoyed a 34-9 advantage in kills and a 21-1 edge in aces.
- Brown finished the second game with a team-high four kills, while Addison Decaro (Eagle River, AK) picked up the Trailblazers' lone ace.
- Caroline Schmaling (Halifax, MA) had two assisted blocks, pairing up with Brown and O'Brien on a block each.
UP NEXT:
On Saturday, MCLA will be back in action when they wrap up their trip to the Pacific Coast Classic with a non-conference matchup with California Lutheran. The match is scheduled for a 6:30 p.m. start.
