Maxon, Seariac lead MCLA to non league win over RPI 7-6
Troy, NY- The MCLA Baseball team pounded out 12 hits and Dillon Maxon came on to escape a major jam in the ninth inning as the Trailblazers squeaked past RPI 7-6 this afternoon in non league action. The Trailblazers improve to 6-9 on the season while RPI falls to 7-6.
It marks the first victory for MCLA over the Engineers since 2010.
The Trailblazers fell behind early as RPI posted a pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning for a 2-0 lead. MCLA would respond with a five run uprising in the fourth inning to take the lead for keeps.
Christian Seariac began things with an RBI single to center field slicing the lead to 2-1. Logan Rumbolt then delivered a two run single to give MCLA a 3-2 lead. Rumbolt would eventually score on a passed ball and when Jake Ferrara singled home Dan Buchanan, it was 5-2 in favor of MCLA.
RPI would add single tallies in the fourth and sixth innings to pull within 5-4 before MCLA got some breathing room. Seariac ripped another RBI single and Rumbolt followed with a sacrifice fly to increase the MCLA lead to 7-4.
The Engineers tacked on one in the seventh and then had a golden chance for a walk off win in the ninth before Maxon entered. Edwin Veras started the frame for MCLA but promptly loaded the bases without recorded an out. Maxon relieved, and quickly recorded a strikeout for the first out.
A fielders choice brought home a run to cut it to 7-6, but now with two outs. Maxon would induce a fly out to right to end the game and earn his first career save in a Trailblazers uniform.
Seariac and Jeff Bink ended with three hits each. Seariac drove in three runs while Rumbolt ended with a pair of hits and three RBI's.
MCLA will open league play on Friday when they travel to the New England Baseball Complex to challenge Framingham State at 11am.
