NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The MCLA Baseball team opened their home slate this afternoon when they welcomed the Worcester State Lancers to Bobby Coombs Field for a MASCAC showdown. The Lancers offense was firing on all cylinders with visitors scoring 29 runs across the two games to complete a three-game sweep of the Trailblazers.

THE BASICS:

  • Date: Friday, March 28, 2025
  • Game #1: Worcester 10, MCLA 2
  • Game #2: Worcester 19, MCLA 3
  • Records: Worcester State University Lancers 11-4 (MASCAC 3-0) | MCLA Trailblazers 2-12 (MASCAC 0-3)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Game #1
    • The Lancers scored in five of the seven innings played in the first game of the doubleheader, including three runs in the first inning and four runs in the sixth.
    • MCLA scored both of their runs in the fourth inning. Senior third baseman Joshua Bissaillon (East Greenbush, NY) started the one out rally with a double into the right-centerfield gap and then moved to third on an infield single by senior designated hitter Matthew Castillo (Ozone Park, NY). Sophomore outfielder Joe Sardo (Great Neck, NY) then plated Bissaillon with single into short right-centerfield. Two batters later Castillo came around to score on a single to left by junior first baseman Chris Vargas (Queens Village, NY).
    • Worcester State's Gavin Price threw a complete game five-hitter, striking out 10 and allowing only two runs to even his record at 2-2.
    • The Lancers' Christopher Mondesir finished the first game 4-4 with a triple, two runs scored, and three runs driven in. Tyler Smith went 2-4 with a double and three runs scored. Tyler Normandie and Anthony Iamarone each went 1-3 with three and two RBIs respectively.
    • The Trailblazers' Vargas went 1-3 with an RBI and a stolen base.
  • Game #2
    • In the second game, Worcester State's bats stayed hot, scoring in five of the seven innings, and putting up large, crooked numbers in the second (six runs) and fifth (eight runs) innings.
    • MCLA scored the first two of their runs in third inning. Freshman shortstop Roshan Warriar (Pittsfield, MA) led off with a single to rightfield, and moved to second on an infield single by Bissaillon. Sardo then picked up his second RBI of the day with a single down the leftfield line. Two batters later junior outfielder Michael Wormuth (Wynantskill, NY) plated Bissaillon with a single to short centerfield.
    • The Trailblazers added one more run in the bottom of the seventh. Freshman outfielder Ben Jacob (Pittsfield, MA) worked a walk to start the frame, and then advanced to second on a productive ground out by Warriar and moved to third on a wild pitch. Bissaillon then picked up the RBI with another ground ball to second.
    • The Lancers' Mondesir again reached base four times, going 1-1 with three walks, four runs scored and two more driven in. Nathan Thurber went 2-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs.
    • Warriar, Bissaillon, and Sardo all finished the game 2-4. Warriar and Bissaillon each scored a run, and Warriar added a stolen base.
