Golf Competes in NEGIA Championship, Gover Finishes Seventh

BREWSTER, Mass.— MCLA's Mat Gover capped off his fall schedule with an impressive seventh place finish this weekend in the 2024 NEIGA Championship played at The Captains Golf Course. The MCLA Golf team finished in 16th place in the team competition.

Endicott College dominated the event setting a two-round, all-time record with a score of 569 (-7) beating the previous mark of 570 set by the University of Rhode Island in 1998.   Additionally, a pair of Gulls teammates (Brady Burke and Will Pierce) tied the all-time individual two-round strokes record with matching 139's (-5).  After chipping in for birdie on 18 to get to the playoff, Burke won the championship on the third playoff hole. All five Endicott golfers finished in the top ten.

Bates College and Husson University finished tied for second in the team competition with a 606 (+30). MCLA finished 16th out of 22 schools with a score of 664 (+88).

Gover's tournament featured 7 birdies and an eagle on the par 5, 13th hole on Sunday. The two-time reigning MASCAC Golfer of the Year shot 74 (+2) in each round tying for 7th place with a tournament total of 148 (+4).

MCLA's Cody White moved up four spots in the second round to finish tied for 42nd place with a 158 (+14). Fellow Trailblazers Easton Moore, Alex Ferris and Addam Brunner also competed in the championship this weekend.
