NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – The MCLA Lacrosse team welcomed SUNY Cobleskill to Shewcraft Field this afternoon for a North Atlantic Conference showdown with the Fighting Tigers. A run of six unanswered goals to open the second half powered the Trailblazers to their first NAC win of the season. Neal Brierley recorded five goals and Quentan Polkowski recorded 28 saves as MCLA held on for an 11-9 win.

  • Series History: MCLA leads the all-time series 3-1, including a 14-13 win last season on April 10th in North Adams. The Trailblazers won the teams' first-ever meeting by a score of 18-10 in North Adams on April 13, 2022.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • MCLA was the first one on the scoreboard when sophomore Ty Roadcap (Troy, NY) (12:31 remaining, unassisted) found the back of the cage with a sidearm shot from about 10 yards out.
  • The Fighting Tigers would respond with a run of three goals to shift the momentum. Albert Sippio (11:35, assisted by Alex Baker), Noah Palange (10:51, unassisted), and Owen Martin (9:57, assisted by Palange) were credited with the goals.
  • MCLA would fight back with a run of their own, scoring two goals to level the score at 3-3 through the end of the first quarter. Both of MCLA's tallies went to Neal Brierley (North Adams, MA) (man-up, 5:25, Anthony Andolina & 2:30, Josh Hemstock). The assist was Hemstock's fourth of the year.
  • The Trailblazers opened the second quarter with another goal when Mark Mageles (Denmark, ME) found a cutting Anthony Andolina (Ballston Spa, NY) (13:04, Mageles) in front of the net.
  • SUNY Cobleskill wrestled the momentum back, scoring four goals to close out the first half and taking a 7-4 advantage into the intermission. The goals were scored by Sippio (6:04, unassisted, 4:21, unassisted & 0:14, Rob Staubitz) and Jordan Barrett (man-up, 5:25, Sippio).
  • Following the break, MCLA stormed back, scoring five goals in the third quarter. Roadcap (14:27, Andolina) notched his second of the game and fifth of the year. Andolina's assist was his fourth. Brierley (13:18, unassisted, 8:45, unassisted, 7:37, Hayden Schuler) scored the next three goals to bring his team-leading total to 20, and the assist was Schuler's second. Andolina (5:26, unassisted) capped the third quarter with his second of the game to put the Trailblazers up by two.
  • For the third time in the game, MCLA notched the first goal of the period, this time it was Hemstock (14:28, Cameron LaFerriere) who found the cage for his second goal of the season and pushed the Trailblazers to their largest lead of the game. The assist was LaFerriere's first.
  • The teams traded goals to close out the game. Both of the Fighting Tiger goals were credited to Baker (11:15, unassisted and 3:45, Sippio). Andolina's (man-up, 6:53, Brierley) tallied his 15th goal of the year to provide the Trailblazers with an insurance goal.
  • Quentan Polkowski (Marcellus, NY) recorded his first collegiate win, stopping 28 shots, and improving his record to 1-4. William Wagner took the loss for SUNY Cobleskill to fall to 1-3.
