Goals by Smith and Phillips Earn Men’s Soccer 2-2 Draw at Keene State

KEENE, N.H. – Goals by MCLA's Ethan Smith and Mateo Phillips earned the Trailblazers a 2-2 nonconference draw at Keene State College Tuesday night at Dr. Ron Butcher Field. With the result the Owls extend a five-game unbeaten streak and move to 3-5-3 (2-1-1 LEC), while the Trailblazers registered their second straight tie and are now 5-5-2 (1-1-1 MASCAC).
An Ethan Smith goal in the 42nd minute gave MCLA a 1-0 halftime lead, but the hosts would draw even in the 60th minute on a Alex Nicolas marker to make it 1-1. Nearly two and a half minutes later teammate Henao Vazquez gave the Owls the lead to make it 2-1.
Undeterred, the Trailblazers battled back to even the match in the 72nd minute as Mateo Phillips sent a bending shot around the outstretched hands of the Keene State keeper Eldin Husonovic to make it 2-2.
Husonovic (T, 0-0-2) made 2 saves while MCLA keeper Oliver Le Lacheur (T, 0-1-1) stopped 8 Owl shots.
Keene State outshot MCLA, 21-8, including 10-4 on shots on goal, to go with their 6-2 corner kick advantage.
Keene State next travels to take on UMass-Boston this Saturday at 12:00 PM in LEC play. MCLA next hosts Worcester State, on Friday at 6pm in an important MASCAC matchup.
