Men’s Soccer Falls to Salem State

SALEM, Mass. — The MCLA Men's Soccer Team took to the road this afternoon for a MASCAC showdown at Alumni Field on the campus of Salem State University. Oliver LeLacheur tied his career high with 17 saves, but the Vikings used a 39-10 edge in shots and a hat trick from Iago De Sousa-Vieira to power a 7-1 conference win.

  • Series History: Salem State leads the all-time series 33-14-2. MCLA won the last meeting of the teams 4-2 last season on October 18, 2024, in North Adams. The Trailblazers took the first ever meeting of the teams by a score of 3-2 during the 1972 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Salem State kept the pressure on MCLA from the start, getting their first shot on net less than a minute into play. The shot was the first of 20 that the Vikings would get off in the first half versus one for the Trailblazers.
  • The home team broke through for their first goal with just over 16 minutes off the clock when Iago De Sousa-Vieira (17', assisted by Kyle Lobao) notched his first of the game. Jadiel Bomfim (27', Liam Hyatt) doubled the Salem lead before De Sousa-Vieira (33', unassisted) and Eric Leuchner (44', Matheus Pelissari) capped the first half scoring.
  • De Sousa-Vieira (16', Michael Echavarria) finished off his hat trick just under 16 minutes into the second half. Naderson Curtis' (67', Landon Picillo) goal extended the lead to 6-0.
  • MCLA broke through with a goal of their own with just over ten minutes left on the clock when Marcos Lopez (Albany, NY) (80', Malburg) accepted a pass from Jacob Malburg at the top of the box, split a cluster of defenders and chipped a shot into the bottom of the goal. The goal was the senior's first of the season.
  • Salem responded with their final goal of the game only 21 seconds later on a goal credited to Guilherme Silva (80', Pelissari).
  • Trailblazers' keeper Oliver LeLacheur (Medford, MA) tied a his career high with 17 saves, matching his total against the Mass. Maritime Academy on October 17th. The loss dropped LeLacheur's record to 3-9-0. Marcelo Silva stopped three of the four shots he faced and improved to 4-2-4 on the year.
