Softball splits doubleheader
MCLA vs. Southern Maine Box Score
Winter Garden, FL- The Softball team went 1-1 today in their double header, winning 2-0 against Southern Maine University and losing 10-7 against Lesley University. The Trailblazers are now 1-3 on the season, while Southern Maine falls to 4-3 on their spring trip.
Rachel Quackenbush and opposing pitcher, Erika Millet, went pitch for pitch throughout the entire Southern Maine game. Amanda Meczywor started the trailblazers' momentum when she tripled in the third inning. Meczywor would score on an RBI groundout from Michaela DiNicola to take a 1-0 lead.
Meczywor would provide some insurance with a seveth inning home run.
Quackenbush rebounded from her opening day loss by tossing the complete game shutout. She struck out seven. DiNicola and Abigail Lucas both had a pair of hits in the 2-0 victory.
Quackenbush evens her record at 1-1.
MCLA was able to jump out to a 1-0 lead in the third inning of game two when DiNicola came home on and RBI hit from Quackenbush. However, the flood gates opened in the bottom part of the frame as Lesley erupted for nine runs. Lesley had seven hits in the inning as they chased Meczywor. Katelyn Henault came on in relief, but faced four batters before exiting without recording an out. Quackenbush came on and settled things down, but the damage was done as MCLA trailed 9-1 after three.
MCLA rallied with five runs in the fifth inning, Lucas had the big blow with a two-run triple in the inning. The Trailblazers never got any closer though as they dropped a 10-7 decison.
DiNicola, Quackenbush and Lucas all had multi-hit games in the loss.
Meczywor took the loss and falls to 0-2 on the young season.
The Trailblazers are back at it Tuesday at 9:00 versus Endicott and again at 11:00 am facing Luther.
