Softball shuts out Umass Boston, falls to Western New England

Clermont, Fl- For the third consecutive day the MCLA softball team split a double header winning game one 8-0 shutout against Umass Boston, but dropping the second game to Western New England University by a score of 9-1. The Trailblazers are 3-5 on the season.
MCLA started the game against Umass Boston with two quick runs. Michaela DiNicola scored the first run of the game when Rachel Quackenbush reached on an error. Abigail Lucas followed with double to center field and Quackenbush scored on the opportunity. MCLA would not score against until the sixth inning, adding six more runs and ending the game with mercy rule. Final score was 8-0 MCLA
In the game against Western New England, both teams were slow to start. It was not until the third inning that WNE took control, scoring four runs. WNE would add four more runs in the fourth and another run in the final inning to make the final score 9-1. MCLA only had one hit in the game, by Alexandra Romano, Romano also scored the Trailblazers lone run.
Quackenbush tallied 12 strikeouts against Umass-Boston.
Lucas went 3-4 at bat while Jennifer Sicinski and Angelica Perfido both went 2-4.
The Trailblazers are back on the field Friday at 9:00 versus Hope and 11:00 am versus Babson.
