Softball blanks SVC in doubleheader 10-0, 15-0, Quackenbush tosses No Hitter
North Adams, MA- The MCLA softball team snapped a seven game skid by sweeping the visiting Southern Vermont Mountaineers 10-0 and 15-0 in the home opener for the Trailblazers this afternoon. With the wins, the Trailblazers are now 6-8 overall while SVC is still in search of their first win as they are 0-10 .
Rachel Quackenbush tossed a no hitter in the game one shut out, while Kate Henault went the distance in game two.
In the opener, MCLA scored four times in the second inning and six more times in the fourth to earn the mercy rule victory. Chelsea Coleman led the offense with a pair of hits, while Kate Berghela and Abby Lucas each drove in two runs.
From there, the story was Quackenbush. She walked the leadoff hitter of the game, but then proceeded to retire the final 15 batters she faced. The right hander struck out 8 batters earning her fourth win of the season.
In game two, MCLA scored in every frame to cruise to victory. They would put up three in the first and three more in the second to take an early 6-0 advantage. They'd tack on two more in the third, before exploding for seven in the fourth to close it out.
Michaela Dinicola, Angelica Perfido, and Fran Belli all had three hits as MCLA pounded out 17 hits in the contest.
Henault allowed six hits and struck one to pick up her second win of the season.
The Trailblazers open conference play on Saturday with a doubleheader at Salem State at 1pm.
