Cold Shooting night dooms women's basketball in loss to Baruch
North Adams, MA-- The visiting Baruch College women's basketball team stormed out to an 11-0 lead and never looked back as the Bearcats easily handled MCLA 68-42 in non-conference action. The Bearcats improve to 4-1 on the season while the Trailblazers drop their second game in as many nights in falling to 2-4.
Baruch's Mia Castillo led all scorers with 21 points on 9-18 shooting. She added 7 rebounds and notched 4 assists in the win. Elissa Leung chipped in with 17 points while Paige Traynor added 12 points, all of which came from beyond the arc.
The Bearcat defense was outstanding all night as they held the Trailblazers to a season low 22% shooting night. Castillo opened the game with a layup and then buried a triple for an early 5-0 lead. Another triple from Castillo made it 8-0 and when Traynor converted a three pointer of her own, Baruch led 11-0 forcing an MCLA timeout.
The Trailblazers would claw to within 19-12 after the first quarter. Baruch would take charge in the second quarter however as they outscored MCLA 23-10 to extend out to a commanding 42-22 halftime lead. The Bearcats shot a solid 51% in the half.
MCLA outscored Baruch 14-12 in the third quarter, but it wasn't enough to slow down the Bearcats. The visitors held MCLA to just six points over the final ten minutes to pull away and earn the win.
Zaylee Ramos ended with a team best 13 point night but was just 3-10 from the floor. Kristie Zator added 11 points and 7 rebounds in defeat.
The Trailblazers are off until Tuesday night when they host Cobleskill at 7pm.
