Women’s Basketball Drop Return to Court at VTSU-Lyndon

LYNDONVILLE, Vt. – The MCLA Women's Basketball team returned to the court for the first time in 638 days this afternoon when they traveled to VTSU-Lyndon for a non-conference matchup with the Hornets at the George W. Stannard Gymnasium. Hailey Peabody paced the Trailblazers with 17 points and Abigail Scialabba added on 15, but the Hornets got double-digit point totals from four different players, led by 23 for Skylar Begay.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • MCLA's return to the court looked good early with the Traiblazers knocking off the rust while staying competitive in the first quarter trailing only 20-14 after the opening 10 minutes. Senior guard/forward Hailey Peabody (W. Springfield, MA) scored six of her team-high 17 points in the opening frame.
  • Slowly the Hornets were able to wear the road team down, outscoring the Trailblazers by at least 12 points in each of the following quarters.
  • MCLA's sophomore guard Abigail Scialabba (Williamstown, MA) joined Peabody in the double-digit point club 15 points in a team-high 37 minutes.
  • VTSU-Lyndon had four players finish would double-digit point totals, led by 23 points by Skylar Begay, 17 for Ella Huntington, 14 from Kiara Mack, and 12 for Kerisa Van Olst.
  • Kiera Quintal led all players with 13 rebounds while junior guard Dakota Quick (Connelly, NY) paced the Trailblazers with nine boards.
