  • Score: MCLA 6, Hilbert 3
  • Records: MCLA Trailblazers 3-0-0 (MASCAC 0-0-0) | Hilbert College Hawks 0-3-0 (N/A 0-0-0)
  • Series History: MCLA leads the all-time series 3-0, having won both previous games on November 3rd and 4th last season by scores of 3-2 and 4-3, respectively.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Despite MCLA's 26-13 shot advantage in the first period, the teams played the frame to a 2-2 tie. MCLA scored the first goal of the game just over six minutes into the game when sophomore defenseman Carlen Bertrand (Timmins, ON / Sudbury Wolves) scored, with assists being credited to sophomore forward Milena Monell (Tampa, FL / Florida Alliance) and sophomore forward Belle Wurmser (Brick, NJ / Princeton Tiger Lillies). The goal was the fifth of the year for Bertrand, and the assists were the first of the season for Monell and Wurmser.
  • Hilbert responded with a pair of goals, the first was scored by Kaitlin Cowie (scored at 8:48, assisted by Jacqueline Alaburda) before the Hawks took the lead on a Cowie's (17:26, Tia Card) second goal of the frame.
  • The lead was short-lived because Trailblazers' senior forward Alexandrea Bednar (Vita, MB / Univ. of Wisconsin–Eau Claire) scored 19 seconds later, with the helper being credited to sophomore forward Nicolette Bardsley (Gilbertsville, PA / Chatham University).
  • Bednar then repaid Bardsley for the favor, picking up the assist on the transfer's first MCLA goal at the 9:22 mark of the second period while sophomore defenseman Summer Bissaillion (Blind River, ON / Sudbury Wolves) doubled the Trailblazers lead with a power-play goal just over seven minutes later with an assist from first-year forward Kiera Grom (Livonia, MI / Belle Tire). The goal was Bissaillion's first of the season, and the helper was Grom's first of her career. It sent the teams into the second intermission with MCLA up 4-2.
  • In the third period, the Trailblazers extended their lead to three when sophomore forward Abigail Davis (Clayton, NC / Carolina Junior Hurricanes) scored her first goal of the season, getting Wurmser her second assist of the game, and sophomore forward Katie Pica (Woburn, MA / Woburn High School) getting her first of the season at the 6:21 mark.
  • Hilbert wouldn't go away, cutting the lead back to two as the clock went under seven minutes to play when Izabelle Wagner (13:03, Brooke Kwiecien and Cowie) scored.
  • The Hawks had one last opportunity to get back in the game, going on a power play with 88 seconds left in regulation and pulling the goalie for a two-man advantage. The Trailblazers slammed that opportunity shut when first-year defenseman Breanna Patterson (Argyle, TX / Dallas Stars Elite) scored her first career goal. Bertrand picked up her third assist in as many games.
  • MCLA's sophomore goalie Kaia Borski (Eagle, CO / Brattle Mountain H.S.) recorded her first career win, saving 21 of the 24 shots she faced, improving to 1-0-0. For the Hawks, Tia Card took the loss despite stopping 37 shots and dropped to 0-3-0.
