WORCESTER, Mass. – The MCLA Women's Ice Hockey team kicked off the last week of their MASCAC regular season this evening when they traveled to Anna Maria College for a matchup with the AMCATs at the Buffone Arena. Both teams were pretty much locked into their playoff seeding for the MASCAC playoffs, the teams were still motivated following their 2-2 deadlock on Saturday night in North Adams. Carlen Bertrand scored for the third straight game, and the fourth time in her last five, but three different AMCATs pushed the hosts to a victory.

  • Date: Wednesday, February 19, 2025
  • Score: MCLA 1, Anna Maria 3
  • Records: MCLA Trailblazers 9-13-1 (MASCAC 3-9-1) | Anna Maria College AMCATs 9-13-2 (MASCAC 6-6-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The AMCATS jumped out to an early lead, scoring just over eight minutes into the first period when Camryn Beauvais redirected a one timer from the right point by Lauren Sundgren (at 8:03, assisted by Sundgren and August Otto) for the only goal of the first period.
  • Sophomore defenseman Carlen Bertrand (Timmins, ON / Sudbury Wolves) pulled MCLA back to even, scoring on the power play less than two minutes into the second frame. Senior forward Alexandrea Bednar (Vita, MB / Univ. of Wisconsin–Eau Claire) started the play by winning a faceoff from the left circle in the Anna Maria end. Bednar controlled the puck to sophomore forward Nicolette Bardsley (Gilbertsville, PA / Chatham University) along the left boards, Bardsley fed it to sophomore defenseman Rebekah Ade in the corner, who cleared it back out to Bednar along the boards. Bednar then cycled the puck out to Bertrand at the left point. Bertrand centered on the net and flipped a rising shot that beat the goalie high and to the stick side. The goal was 15th of the season. The assists were the sixth of the year for both Ade and Bednar.
  • Anna Maria retook the lead about three and a half minutes later when Carly Drew (5:25, Alexandria Mupo) backhanded the puck around a scrum of Trailblazer defenders in front of the net after a shot from Mupo fell at her feet to send the teams into the second intermission with the hosts ahead 2-1.
  • The AMCATs tacked on an insurance goal in the third period with about five and a half minutes to go in the game when Morgan Daly put home the rebound of a shot from Otto in front of the net.
  • Megan Tegethoff stopped 18 of the 19 shots she faced to improve to 5-4-2, while junior goalie Juliette Barney (Braintree, MA / Anna Maria College) recorded 41 saves before falling to 3-8-0.
