Women's Lacrosse victory over NVU-Lyndon earns Baribault first win at the helm

Plymouth, NH- Freshman Julia Graham (Chittenago, NY) scored six goals and senior Sara Tomkiewicz (Adams, MA) added five more as the MCLA Women's Lacrosse team earned their first victory of the season today over nonconference opponent Northern Vermont-Lyndon, 15-7. The win also marked the first for the program under head coach Allyson Baribault.  

MCLA now is 1-3 while NVU-Lyndon drops to 0-4.

The Trailblazers got off to a quick start as Graham and Tomkiewicz each scored in the opening minute. Another goal five minutes later by freshman Summer Nichols (Bennington, VT) would push the early lead to 3-0.

The Hornets would get on the board halfway through the quarter and again in the final minute. However, over the next fifteen minutes Graham and Tomkiewicz would each score three times pushing the MCLA lead to 9-2 with 7:30 left in the second. NVU-Lyndon would score the next three closing the half strong to cut the Trailblazer lead to 9-5. But that would be as close as the Hornets would get.

The Trailblazers controlled play the rest of the way and the defense proved stout. They would hold NVU-Lyndon scoreless in the third quarter as Tomkiewicz, Nichols, Graham and junior Em Marlay-Wright (Albany, NY) would each score making it 13-5 after three.

Graham would score her final goal on the day early in the fourth quarter and freshman Nina Reyes (Malden, MA) would add another to put the game out of reach as the Trailblazers cruised to a 15-5 final.

Julia Graham (6 goals) and Sara Tomkiewicz (5 goals) led the way offensively for the Trailblazers while teammates Summer Nichols (2 goals), Em Marlay-Wright and Nina Reyes rounded out the scoring. NVU-Lyndon's Alyssa Fryman led the Hornets with 4 goals on the day.

MCLA freshman goalkeeper Lori Lester (Methuen, MA) earned her first career win making 11 saves. Paige Daley took the loss for the Hornets.

The Trailblazers outshot NVU-Lyndon (26-18), collected more groundballs (25-16) and committed four fewer turnovers on the day.

NVU-Lyndon next travels to take on in-state rival Norwich University Thursday at 4pm. MCLA will also hit the road for its final nonconference tune-up as they take on Sage next Saturday at 1pm.
