Women’s Soccer Reach Scoreless Stalemate with Anna Maria

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The MCLA Women's Soccer team welcomed Anna Maria College to Shewcraft Field this evening. This was the first time that the matchup between the teams was as conference opponents, and the teams played to a scoreless draw with each team finishing the night with six shots on goal.

  • Series History: Anna Maria College now leads the all-time series 1-0-2, with the teams playing to a 2-2 tie in their last meeting on September 3, 2023, in Paxton, MA. The AMCATs took home a victory in the only prior meeting of the teams by a score of 3-0 on September 2, 2000, in North Adams.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The teams played about as evenly as possible through the game. MCLA would finish the night with an 11-7 edge in shots, but the teams recorded an equal six shots on goal. Both teams recorded two shots in the first half and four in the second half.
  • The AMCATs held a 3-0 edge on corner kicks in the first half including on in the 39th minute that drew MCLA goalie Mallory Amirian (Haverhill, MA) off her line to punch away a shot by Anna Maria's Maria Olivia Vale da Serra.
  • The Trailblazer's pressure resulted in them reversing that corner advantage in the second half, taking four kicks to the AMCATs one. AMC's Brooke Austin recorded a key save off a corner kick by MCLA's Addison Hayer (Adams, MA) that set up a shot for Allie Bayer (Boring, OR) from about 25 yards deep.
  • Trailblazers' Amirian finished the night with six saves on six shots to record her first shutout of the season, and the second of her collegiate career. The tie moved her record on the year to 0-1-1. Austin matched her with six saves on six shots to move to 1-3-2 on the season.
