Volleyball Cruises Past Albertus Magnus

NORTH ADAMS, Mass.— The MCLA Volleyball Team welcomed the Albertus Magnus College Falcons to the Amsler Campus Center Gymnasium this evening for the team's final home non-conference game. Elizabeth Brown led a balanced MCLA attack that saw the team finish with a .300 hitting percentage. Addison Decaro and Chloie Garber combined for 11 aces as MCLA the Falcons in straight sets.

  • Series History: MCLA leads the all-time series 2-0. MCLA won the first-ever meeting between the teams 3-0 on October 5, 2022, in North Adams.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • MCLA took the first set by 25-18. Junior outside hitter Audrey Melson (Champlin Park, MN) had five kills on ten attacks during the set, and Sophomore middle hitter Caroline Schmaling (Halifax, MA) smacked down another three kills.
  • The Trailblazers opened the second set with a 6-0 run to force the Falcons into their first timeout. The Falcons stormed back, however, to tie the set at 16 all before MCLA went on another 4-0 run to drive the visitors into the second timeout of the set. Then, the Trailblazers finalized the set on a 9-4 run to win it 25-20.
  • MCLA closed the match with a 25-19 set that included four kills and two service aces by senior right-side Chloie Garber (Eagle River, AK).
  • Junior outside hitter Elizabeth Brown (Lee, MA) led the way for a balanced attack by the Trailblazers. Brown finished with a team-high ten kills, two off the pace Albertus Magnus' Majo Pelaez set. MCLA had seven players record at least one kill, including four with six or more kills.
  • AMC's Shalese recorded a game-high 20 of her team's 24 assists and one more than MCLA first-year setter Addison Decaro (Eagle River, AK). Junior setter Shannon O'Brien (Unionville, CT) tagged on another 12 assists for the home team.

UP NEXT:

On Saturday, MCLA will be back in action when they travel to Mt. St. Mary College non-conference tri-match with the Knights and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Mariners at the Kaplan Center in Newburgh, N.Y. The Trailblazers' first match is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
